Walk With Pride Program Provides New Shoes for Abilene Area School Children
Walk With Pride is an annual program that helps provide a new pair of back-to-school shoes for Big Country students. ‘Walk With Pride’ is a cooperative effort of the Salvation Army and the Abilene Association of Realtors. The program has been going on for over 25 years and is available to all children ages 4 through 12 years of age, the kids must be enrolled in head-start thru the 5th grade. Here’

Cross Plains Public Library to Receive Grant from National Endowment for the Arts
The Cross Plains public library was one of 78 libraries in America, chosen to participate in the ‘Big Read’ program. The library is set to receive an endowment for the arts. The ‘Big Read’ is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to restore and promote reading in America.
The National Day of the American Cowboy Will Be Celebrated This Saturday at the Fort Worth Stockyards
Saturday is the National Day of the American Cowboy (NDAC) and will be celebrated all over the Lone Star State. The closest place to Abilene holding a big celebration is the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. Most all activities associated with the NDAC at the Fort Worth Stockyards will be free, with only a few exceptions.
