Blake Shelton has shared his next single, "God's Country." Press play above to listen to the new track for yourself!

For "God's Country," Shelton called on the songwriting talents of two Nashville mainstays who are also rising country stars in their own rights: Devin Dawson and Hardy, who co-wrote the track with ace songwriter Jordan Schmidt. In an interview on SiriusXM, Dawson revealed that the song's hard rock edge comes from its songwriters' diverse musical backgrounds.

"Hardy and I both come from, like, a metal background, and it's pretty heavy, man," he explains. "But it still has that lyric that I need, to chew on. It has heart." In addition to co-writing the song, Dawson also contributes background vocals to "God's Country."

Dawson and Hardy's metal backgrounds bring "God's Country" a melody driven by hand-claps and deep bells. The lyrics find the spiritual nature of growing up in the country: "I saw the light in a sunrise ... Gettin' baptized in holy water and 'shine with the dogs runnin' ...," goes the chorus. "The Devil went down to Georgia, but he didn't stick around / This is God's country."

In a press release, Shelton adds that he was drawn to the song because it is simultaneously so personally meaningful to him and also open to each listener's individual experience: "No matter where you are from, or where you're standing, it is my belief that you're standing in God's Country," he says. "For me it's about being from Oklahoma -- where I was born, raised and still live today."

"God's Country" is Shelton's first single from a forthcoming new album. Further details about the project have yet to be announced.
