During a headlining set at Washington state's Gorge Amphitheatre on Saturday (June 1), Brandi Carlile brought legendary Americana performer Emmylou Harris to the stage for a cover of Sarah McLachlan's "Angel." Press play above to watch the duet!

Harris, as well as singer-songwriter Neko Case, also performed a set during the evening's show, which was billed as Echoes Through the Canyon. When she re-appeared onstage alongside Carlile, the headlining artist took a minute to compliment her guest's performance.

"I was sitting backstage in the dressing room and I was looking down in the canyon and listening to your voice, and I was like, 'This voice goes with this canyon,'" Carlile gushed. "It was so otherworldly! Just beautiful."

"Can I take it with me? I guess, no. I'll just have to come back sometime," Harris replied with a smile. The pair then proceeded to spotlight Harris' voice in the space one last time that evening as they sang McLachlan's iconic hit together, the two performers' voices harmonizing gently on the chorus of the song.

The performance of "Angel" was particularly meaningful as its artist, McLachlan, founded the all-female traveling music festival Lilith Fair in 1998. Carlile has been open about Lilith Fair's influence on her own career, and in particular, her decision to debut her annual Girls Just Wanna Weekend, which features an all-female lineup. That festival debuted in early 2019, and Carlile recently shared plans for its second iteration in 2020.

Carlile will team up with another country legend on Wednesday night (June 5) at the CMT Music Awards in Nashville: She'll be performing alongside Tanya Tucker. Carlile co-produced Tucker's forthcoming album, While I'm Livin'and also co-wrote seven of the project's ten tracks.
