It seems like 'Iron Man' director Jon Favreau needed to lick his wounds after the fiasco that was 'Cowboys and Aliens,' as that film's failure may have led to a number of his follow-ups falling apart (he was once set to direct both 'Magic Kingdom' and 'Jersey Boys'). But after directing the lower budget 'Chef' it looks like he'll be helming a new franchise as he's up for the new adaptation of 'The Jungle Book.'

This word comes from Deadline, where Favreau told them:

I can’t say that much, but there is an interesting take that could be very cool, and the hope is to relaunch a family brand with certain mythic elements. It is my first real family film since Elf, and there are action elements and visual effects that I feel like my experience on the Iron Man films are going to be useful.

The film would be (perhaps loosely) based on the Rudard Kipling novel, which Disney turned into an animated film in 1967, and tried as a live action version in 1994 that didn't do as well as expected. Disney expressed interest in doing a version earlier this year, and has Justin Marks working on the script.  As a title, it's both familiar but vague, though not as dated or perhaps as offensive as similar titles like 'Tarzan.' Favreau is a good fit for the material, so hopefully this comes to pass, though we wouldn't expect it before 2016.
