Drought in West Texas Drives More Wild Animals Into Abilene

As I drive around town I've noticed more wild animals either dead on city streets, or just wandering around town. On my commute to and from work, I counted 7 dead 'wild animals' on the roads. There was three coyotes, one porcupine, one deer, one raccoon and a deer. I called Abilene Animal Control to find out, 'why are we seeing so many wild animals in Abilene?'

Learn to Practice Proper Flag Etiquette

As July 4th nears, many of us will be flying Old Glory high and proud. With that, comes the responsibility and respect for our flag. There are laws that govern how and when the Stars and Stripes can be flown. I have noticed that many Abilene businesses fly the American flag all year-round, not just on holidays. Some of these local businesses are actually in violation of flag laws and lack flag etiquette, and probably don't know it.

Abilene Lions Clubs Offer a Holiday Flag Service

Independence Day is Thursday this year, and it's time to take a good look at Old Glory to make sure she's fit to fly. I just can't remember all the different holidays in which it's okay to fly the flag. I know there's the 4th of July, Veterans Day, Memorial Day and Flag Day. One time I forgot to take it down my flag at night, then there's the unexpected storms, is it too faded or tattered. There's so much to remember right? The Abilene Area Lions Clubs to the rescue

The Top 5 Songs From the Summer of 1985

My wife and I went down to The Record Guys to get a needle for my dad's record player.

While we were there, we looked through thousands of albums. Then, from across the store, Donna yells "honey look, do you remember this one?" as she held up the vintage Steve Wariner album "One Good Night Deserves Another". That was the album that had his first number one hit "Some Fools Never Learn". The summer of '85 also had other amazing songs like it.

Thompson Square’s Summer of 2013 Song is “Everything I Shouldn’t Be Thinking About”

Thompson Square's new summer fun song "Everything I Shouldn’t Be Thinking About" is a love song for grown-ups, if you know what I mean. Keifer Thompson takes the lead on this one, while wife Shawna follows up with a rebuttal.  This is truly a husband and wife, who are in love with each other type of love song. While their single "Glass" was so far removed from their comfort zone, I think this new song brings them back to the Thompson Square of old.
