Dave Wheaton

I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as quick as I could. I'm originally from Battle Creek, Michigan (home of Tony the Tiger). I've got two kids who take up most of my time out of the office, but when I get "me time", I'm either taking in some live music or a sporting event. Since relocating, I also fell in love with the Texas music scene. I've been lucky enough to be nominated for DJ of the Year 4 straight years by the Academy of Texas Music, and was the 2009 recipient of the Academy's Palmwood Award. I'm a huge sports fan, and my loyalties are with the Michigan Wolverines, Chicago White Sox and (sorry) the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Dave’s Son Nathan Negotiates His First Ever Pawn Shop Deal

There's your baby's first steps, first words and first tooth. Potty training, learning to read, and learning to ride a bicycle. All huge milestones as parents gauge the growth of their children. But my son Nathan and I enjoyed an all too often overlooked milestone: his first solo trip into the pawn shop.

‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ Reviewed By Nathan, My 13-Year Old Son

My 13-year old son, Nathan, has become quite a fan of movies lately. And as is the case with most teenagers, he has an opinion about pretty much everything. So I figured we could combine his appreciation for cinema and hearing himself speak, and have him review the movies he goes to see.

Dave is Caught on Video Attempting to Play Guitar

A while ago, I wrote a blog about New Year's Resolution ideas. As the start of 2013 came and went, I came to the realization that, while I offered some suggestions that I believe are pretty good, I hadn't actually chosen one of my own. So, I decided to put a resolution that I've been holding on to for years to task: learning to play a m

Dave Shares His Favorite Earl Dibbles Jr. Facebook Posts

I don't think anyone will be surprised to hear me say that Earl Dibbles, Jr. is the alter-ego of Granger Smith. The Texas Country singer/songwriter with a whole lot of talent, an impressive collection of Top 5 singles and has very unique ways of entertaining his fans. Smith as Dibbles, Jr. can easily be described as an extreme country boy who regularly speaks his opinion with a simplistic approach to life, love, political views and beer drinking (a.k.a. 'crackin' a cold one'). And he posts his opinion regularly on social network sites like Instagram, Twitter, and my personal source for Earl Dibbles Jr.-isms, Facebook.

Dave Explains Why Kevin Fowler is More than Just a Big-Time Country Singer

We all know Kevin Fowler for his free-spirited, infectious songs that help define the Texas Country Music genre. His live show is a party every time every time he takes the stage. The man is an outstanding entertainer, deserving of his popularity and huge fan base. But every time I see him playing for a packed house, or hear his song on the radio, I think of a slightly different Kevin Fowler. A real good guy.

Roger Creager Shows His ‘Relaxed Fit’ Side With His New Single ‘For You I Do’ – Song Review

Roger Creager may still be better known for his live shows, partying image and unmatched sense of humor and adventure than a studio musician, but that appears to be changing with every song he offers to radio. Creager has a more heartfelt, easy-going part to his personality, and he shows that side off with his new single, 'For You I Do'.

Watch This Skydiver Fall 8,000 Feet Without a Parachute — and Survive

I'm not a skydiver, and I doubt I ever will be. But people who do parachute from thousands of feet up in the sky have my respect. It's scary stuff. You hear about skydivers falling to earth without a parachute to meet with terrible injuries or death. But this 51-year old dentist not only managed to survive his freefall to earth, he walked away with no more than a few bruises! Chalk it up to clean living, I suppose.
